Rehabilitation in Kolding
If you are operated on after an injury in e.g. knee, shoulder or ankle, you often experience a considerable loss of muscle mass, and this is called in professional language atrophy. Atrophy can be significantly restricted by using a training method in its rehabilitation called occlusion, which is also called BFR training (blood flow ressistance training). Almost immediately in the process after an operation, you can start with this type of training, if you just make sure to follow the right protocols.
The theory behind BFR training is that you do a controlled clamping at the top of the leg or arm while exercising the muscles with a very low load. This will make the blood not run back in the same way, thus creating ischemia (oxygen deficiency in the muscle). The chemical processor in the tissue makes the body think it has trained really hard, and it will thus begin to form extra muscle mass. This can also help people who have already experienced atrophy/muscle loss after an operation or injury to get back much of the lost muscle mass. At FysioKolding we use a pressure gauge to keep an eye on the right pressure in the cuffs used for clamping. In this way, we ensure that there will be no damage to e.g. nerves or vessels.
The treatment may consist, among other things, of:
The first time you come to the physiotherapist it will take 45 – 60 minutes (unless otherwise agreed by phone). There will be a thorough physiotherapeutic examination where the causes of the problems are uncovered, and there will be a treatment with the purpose of remedying these causes. Subsequent treatments will typically last about 30 minutes, as there is already one whose knowledge of what needs to be investigated and treated. If there is a need for longer treatment per time than 30 minutes, it will be agreed in advance so that you as a patient are prepared when you come in for the treatment.
